Funded by the Trust — At the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum

At the Voyager New Zealand National Maritime Museum

Philip Edmiston was a member of the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. It was with this interest in mind coupled with his civic mindedness and interest in art, that the Edmiston Trust made an important decision in 1992 to support the construction of a gallery for the Voyager New Zealand Maritime Museum.

In recognition the gallery was named the "Edmiston Gallery of Maritime Art". The Trust also pledged a substantial sum for purchasing maritime art, which has resulted in a collection of great heritage value and national significance, which continues to grow.

In 2009 the Trust coordinator with a team from the Maritime Museum worked on a project to revitalise the Edmiston Gallery. Previously a large open space the gallery has now been transformed with new and moveable walls; and strong warm colours have been introduced to compliment the artwork on display in the new exhibitions. The Museum and the Trust now look forward to developing a new programme of exhibitions to compliment the growing collection.
